The association Pierre de Bourgogne, is the originator of this Geographical Indication project.
Established in 1996, its purpose is to promote, communicate and advise about Burgundy limestone, its craftsmen and its applications. It is partially funded by the Conseil regional de Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.
It integrates artisans, stonemasons, sculptors, quarriers (stone extraction), manufacturers (shaping and finishing stone by machine), fixers and stone roof tilers. At an EGM which took place on 1 July 2016, the association modified its statutes to define its objectives as a Defence and Management Organisation. The Defence and Management Organisation (ODG) is the depositary of the certification "IG Pierre de Bourgogne". It represents the general interests of companies concerning the IG.
The association is a member of the AFIGIA, French Association of the Industrial and Artisanal Geographical Indications. Created on 22 January 2015, this association regroups the ODG representing French renowned traditional products. The AFIGIA allows all these sectors to meet, to exchange and pool their actions to obtain a GI or exchange their experiences when the GI is certified.
